For beginners in orchid growing, the only way to choose a favorite variety is through pictures of orchid varieties online, but how can one judge the grade of an orchid from pictures?

Simply judging whether a variety is good or bad requires the following four steps.

1. A high-definition picture of a single orchid flower, used to judge the petal shape, the column, the lip, etc. of this flower. The most important thing when choosing a high-quality orchid variety is to look at the center of the flower; orchids with a good center are generally not bad!

2. A high-definition picture of the entire flower spike, used to judge the inflorescence of the orchid, the height of the spike, the thickness and color of the spike, etc.

3. A picture of the whole plant, flowers and pot, used to judge whether the combination of leaves and flowers is harmonious and to avoid small flowers with large foliage. Only when the overall effect of the orchid's flowers and leaves is good is it truly a good pot of flowers!

4. A picture of the bloom after one week. This is generally rarely provided online. Flowers with poor flower persistence are very beautiful when they first open, but after a few days the petal shape stretches out, the shoulders drop, and the column opens, etc. Therefore, to judge good flower persistence, there must be a photo after one week. In short, pictures can only serve as a reference. To truly understand an orchid variety, one still has to be personally involved in the whole process, especially in judging that wisp of delicate fragrance!
