Butterfly-Lover is a butterfly-type variety among Chinese orchids (guolan), named for the butterfly-like mutation of its petals, which resemble dancing butterflies. It attracts considerable attention at orchid shows and among orchid enthusiasts, and is one of the orchid varieties with particularly outstanding ornamental value.

Compared with ordinary orchids, the biggest highlight of Butterfly-Lover is its flower form. Some of its petals undergo lip-like (labellum) transformation, with colors and shapes closer to those of a butterfly; when it blooms, the whole flower is lively and graceful, more eye-catching than that of ordinary varieties. The leaves are mostly slender and strap-shaped, spreading elegantly, and retain a certain ornamental value even outside the flowering period.

As for care, Butterfly-Lover prefers a warm, humid, well-ventilated semi-shaded environment; in daily cultivation it can be placed in a spot with diffused light, avoiding prolonged direct exposure to strong light. The growing medium should be loose, breathable materials such as bark and Kanuma soil (plant gold stone); watering should follow the principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet, to prevent long-term water accumulation in the pot from causing root rot. During the peak growing season, a thin liquid fertilizer may be applied as a supplement, and spent flowers should be cut off promptly after blooming to help the plant recover nutrients.

In daily management, attention should also be paid to disease and pest prevention. In hot and humid seasons, rot diseases such as stem rot and soft rot are prone to occur, so ventilation should be strengthened, watering appropriately controlled, and diseased plants isolated and treated promptly when found. Repotting is generally done once every one to two years, mostly after flowering or during the dormant period; combining root trimming with fresh growing medium can keep the plant growing more vigorously.
