Legendary Cuilan: Variety Characteristics and Care Methods
Chuan Shuo Zhong De Cui (Legendary Cui) is a rather legendary variety name among Chinese cymbidium orchids, and the name itself easily brings to mind its elegant emerald-green tones. Judging from related reading on this site, Luo Cui Rong Mei, Yao Shi Mei Chunlan, Bao Die Chunlan, and Jin Yang Bi Yu Chunlan all belong to the Chunlan (spring orchid) category, and Chuan Shuo Zhong De Cui also frequently appears in discussions and appreciation of this type of Chinese cymbidium.
As an ornamental orchid, its main appeal lies in its leaves and flowers. The leaves are slender and glossy, and the plant has a stately form; the flower color is dominated by a fresh emerald green, and when it opens it has a plain and elegant character that echoes the variety name. It should be noted that flower quality can vary with different seedling conditions and care conditions, which is also a fairly common phenomenon among Chinese cymbidium varieties.
For care, it is much the same as other Chinese cymbidiums: it likes loose, airy, slightly acidic growing media, which can be mixed from bark, Kanuma soil, and leaf mold, etc. For daily placement, choose a spot with bright indirect light and good ventilation, and avoid direct harsh sun; water according to the principle of watering when dry and letting it dry between waterings, preferring dry over waterlogged. During the spring and autumn growing seasons, apply light fertilizer frequently, while in the high heat of summer and the low temperatures of winter, be careful to control water and keep the environment stable.
Chuan Shuo Zhong De Cui is mainly used for potted ornamental display, and because of its auspicious name and distinctive appearance it is also favored by orchid growers, often appearing in orchid exchange and exhibition activities. If problems such as yellow leaves or root rot occur during novice care, they are mostly related to overwatering, poor ventilation, or overly strong light, and after timely adjustment of the environment they can generally recover gradually.
