The three sepals are long-stalked with round tips, glutinous in texture and thick in flesh; the petals form separate pouches, semi-hard hooded heart, sometimes with joined bases; round lip, green color, level shoulders, thick and long scape. In the winter of the sixth year, Wang Changyou brought two small seedlings to Hangzhou and exchanged them at Jiufeng Pavilion for the spring orchid 'Kuizi'." A black-and-white photograph is attached, inscribed: "Rongmei, also called Xiding, obtained and cultivated by Mr. Rong Wenqing of Wuxi in the first year of Xuantong."

"Continued Record of Orchids and Cymbidiums in Harmony" states: "Rongmei is a new variety that turns from red to green. The flower opens from a hole. Tight edges, thick flesh, round tips with constricted base, pretty color, level shoulders; the heart forms separate heads with joined backs; ruyi lip, incomparably radiant and gorgeous. When in bloom, place it in shade; never let it be exposed to wind or sun, only then can you see a good flower. Even more, do not touch it. Tall-stemmed with a high foot ring. Obtained by Mr. Rong Wenqing of Wuxi in the early years of the Republic of China."
