Corn-specific fertilizer is a fertilizer specially formulated according to the nutrient requirements of corn and the soil nutrient conditions, with nutrients based mainly on nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, and usually with the addition of medium and trace elements such as zinc. Corn is relatively sensitive to zinc, and when zinc is deficient, symptoms such as leaf chlorosis and stunted growth tend to appear, so many special fertilizer formulas include an appropriate amount of zinc fertilizer.

In terms of type, corn-specific fertilizer includes various forms such as compound fertilizer, blended fertilizer and slow and controlled release fertilizer. Slow and controlled release products can extend the nutrient release time and reduce the number of topdressings, making them suitable for large-scale planting; ordinary compound fertilizer needs to be combined with topdressing to meet the nutrient needs of corn in the middle and late stages.

In terms of application, special fertilizer is generally applied as a base fertilizer deeply during land preparation, or a portion can be reserved for topdressing from the jointing stage to the large trumpet stage to promote ear differentiation and grain filling. When used as a seed fertilizer, it must be kept at a certain distance from the seeds to prevent burning the seeds and seedlings. The specific fertilization amount should be flexibly adjusted according to soil fertility, planting density and the previous crop.

When using it, note also that nitrogen fertilizer should not be applied all at once in excessive amounts, so as to avoid excessive vegetative growth, lodging, or delayed maturity with excessive greenness. Special fertilizer is best applied together with organic fertilizer, which can both build up soil fertility and improve fertilizer use efficiency. When purchasing, choose products with complete nutrient labeling that suit the local soil conditions, and store and use them according to the instructions.
