Indoor air-purifying plants are plants suitable for placing in indoor environments such as homes and offices, combining ornamental value with a certain air-purifying effect. Through photosynthesis they absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen; the leaves of some varieties can also trap dust from the air, and transpiration helps regulate indoor humidity, making the space more comfortable.

Common indoor air-purifying plants include pothos (Epipremnum aureum), spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum), ivy (Hedera helix), snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata), peace lily (Spathiphyllum), Swiss cheese plant (Monstera deliciosa), areca palm (Dypsis lutescens), aloe (Aloe vera) and rubber plant (Ficus elastica). Most of these varieties are shade-tolerant and easy to grow, with low light requirements; they can grow normally even in rooms without direct sunlight, making them very suitable for gardening beginners.

There are a few points to note in care. Most indoor plants dislike waterlogged soil, so watering should follow the principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet, better too little than too much; the best placement is near a window with diffused light, since long-term insufficient light easily causes leaves to fade and stems to grow leggy. Wipe the leaf surfaces with a damp cloth regularly, which keeps them looking good and also helps the leaves function properly.

It should be noted that plants' improvement of indoor air is supplementary and cannot completely replace opening windows for ventilation. In addition, the sap of Araceae plants such as pothos and Swiss cheese plant is mildly irritating, so households with young children or pets should pay attention to where they are placed. When choosing, combine the lighting conditions of the room with your own usual care habits so the plants can stay in good condition for a long time.
