How to Grow Succulents into Big Plants
How to Cultivate Large Succulents
First, you need to understand that the body size of succulents is determined by their genes. When their genotypes are completely identical, you then need to improve their body size through different cultivation methods, nutritional states and other factors.
Improve
Improve the cultivation conditions for succulents. Different succulents have different requirements for light and humidity, so you need to manage the humidity, temperature, light, water and fertilizer of the environment according to the specific succulent variety, so that they can grow healthily. In addition, enclosed cultivation, the greenhouse effect, large temperature differences and high-nitrogen fertilizer will promote plant growth, and the plant volume will become larger. This is all because these cultivation conditions stimulate plant cells to produce a response to auxin, thereby promoting cell elongation.
Grow
Take good care of the root system of succulents. Among the roots of succulents, only the fine hair roots absorb water, and always maintaining the activity of the fine hair roots is the basic condition for growing large. Succulents should be transplanted as little as possible, because each transplant damages the fine hair roots once. For mature succulents, after a one-time soil mix and planting, do not transplant unless the plant has filled the pot or its body is being squeezed.
Squeeze
Organically combine leggy growth and shape control, so that you can obtain large succulents. Around the Spring Festival, you can water the succulents more and provide appropriate shading, which helps the inner leaves grow leggy and loosens the compactness of the succulent. Then, when the growing season comes, if you provide strong light or a suitable temperature difference, new leaves can emerge, and they can quickly squeeze the surrounding slightly leggy leaves, thereby making the plant shape compact, and in this invisible way enlarging the body size of the succulent.
Change
Change to a sufficiently large flower pot. The size of succulent pots should transition gradually. At the beginning, small seedlings should use small flower pots. After the roots burst, transplant them into a pot one size larger, and transition gradually. Do not put them into a large flower pot right from the start. Large pots are not easy to control water with, and the root system of small seedlings needs to continuously extend, dry up or rot, which is not conducive to the development of many weak root hairs.
Growing large succulents cannot be rushed. The age of the succulent is the decisive factor in making it larger. Succulents in their juvenile stage are very difficult to grow very large. Only when the succulent's age increases and it has accumulated enough dry matter can its body size be better enlarged.
