The Louis XIV rose is a classic garden variety originating from France, named after the French king Louis XIV, and is very well known among rose enthusiasts. Its most striking feature is its flower color, which is deep purple verging on black; the petals have a velvety texture and take on a dark red sheen in the light, and it is often regarded as one of the varieties closest to a black rose.

In terms of flower form, the Louis XIV rose is a double-flowered rose, with full, well-formed blooms and a rich fragrance carrying the typical old-fashioned rose scent. The plant grows with moderate vigor and branches fairly well, making it suitable both for planting in the ground in a courtyard to create flower borders and for growing in a larger pot for ornamental display.

As for care, it prefers a sunny, well-ventilated environment, and ample direct light helps it flower normally and makes the flower color deeper and richer. The soil should be loose, fertile, slightly acidic and well drained; water according to the principle of letting the soil dry out before watering again, and avoid prolonged waterlogging, which can cause root rot. During the growing season, fertilizer can be applied as needed, and spent flowers and weak branches should be pruned promptly after blooming, which helps the plant bloom again.

In routine management, note that this variety is prone to common diseases such as black spot and powdery mildew in hot, humid seasons, so fallen leaves should be cleared away in time, ventilation improved, and preventive spraying carried out in advance when necessary. In cold regions in winter, the plant can be pruned appropriately and protective measures taken against the cold to help it overwinter safely, so that its growth and flowering will be even better the following year.
