Yellow Orchid Tree has a rich fragrance; master the key care points and it will bloom even more profusely
Yellow Orchid Tree, also known as white magnolia and Burmese osmanthus, is an evergreen tree of the genus Michelia in the family Magnoliaceae, and is very common in southern regions such as Sichuan, Chongqing and Yunnan. Its tree form is upright, its leaves are leathery and glossy, its flowers are pure white and elegant, and its fragrance is fresh and rich. It has a long flowering period and is a very popular fragrant tree species in urban landscaping and courtyard cultivation in the south.
Yellow Orchid Tree prefers a warm, humid environment with plenty of light, and has poor cold tolerance, so in northern regions it must be moved indoors in winter or given good protection from the cold. It grows best in loose, fertile, well-drained slightly acidic soil, and watering should follow the principle of drying out between waterings to avoid root rot caused by long-term waterlogging. During the peak growing season, apply light fertilizer frequently, and appropriately supplement phosphorus and potassium fertilizer before flowering, which helps promote abundant blooming.
Its uses are also very wide-ranging. The flowers can be used to scent flower tea and extract natural essential oils, and are also often strung into flower garlands to wear or placed indoors, where their delicate fragrance is refreshing. As a street tree or courtyard ornamental tree, it is evergreen all year round with a graceful form, combining ornamental value with practical value.
In daily care, yellowing leaves are the most common problem, mostly caused by alkaline soil or iron deficiency, and can be improved by loosening the soil and watering with alum fertilizer water. When ventilation is poor, pests such as aphids and scale insects are prone to breeding. Once discovered, the affected branches and leaves should be pruned promptly and pesticides applied for control, keeping the environment well ventilated and well lit so the plant can grow vigorously and bloom continuously.
