Single-person tea leaf harvesters: buying tips and usage techniques to save labor and boost efficiency in tea garden picking

During the spring tea picking season, many tea farmers start thinking about replacing manual labor with machines. Because the single-person tea harvester is light, flexible and can be operated by one person, it has become a popular choice for small and medium-sized tea gardens. Today let's talk about the principles, buying tips and daily use of single-person tea harvesters.

How a single-person tea harvester works

A single-person tea harvester generally consists of a small power engine, a transmission device and picking blades. When working, the blades move back and forth at high speed, cutting the one bud and two or three leaves, along with some tender leaves, from the surface of the tea bush canopy and collecting them into a leaf collection bag. It has a simple structure and light weight, making it suitable for hills, mountains, terraced tea gardens and other plots where large tea harvesters cannot enter. When used well, one single-person tea harvester can match the picking efficiency of several workers, and as long as it is operated properly, the harvested buds and leaves have a relatively high degree of integrity, with little impact on the quality of the fresh tea leaves.

Check these points when buying

First, look at power and weight: too little power makes picking strenuous, while too much weight makes carrying it tiring. It is recommended to choose a model with matching power and a lightweight overall body according to your own tea garden scale and terrain. Second, look at blade quality: the blade is the core component, and its material and workmanship directly determine whether cutting is clean and whether buds and leaves are broken. Third, look at operating comfort: whether the shoulder strap is wide and thick and whether the handle is shock-absorbing makes a very obvious difference during long hours of work. Fourth, look at after-sales service: try to choose a brand with a good reputation, easily available accessories and convenient repairs. In addition, many regions have already included tea harvesters in the scope of agricultural machinery purchase subsidies. Subsidy standards and model catalogs vary from place to place, so before buying you can consult and confirm with the local agricultural machinery department.

Notes on use and maintenance

Before use, first check the fuel, whether the blades are tightened and whether the leaf collection bag is intact; during operation, hold the machine steadily with both hands and push the blades smoothly along the picking surface. The speed should not be too fast, so as to avoid chopping the leaves or injuring the tea bush. Do not work in rain or when dew has not dried, as wet leaves easily stick to the blades and also affect the quality of the fresh tea leaves. The picking height should be well controlled; do not cut too deep in one go and damage the tea bush. The fresh tea leaves picked should be spread out and processed in time, and must not be piled up for a long time and allowed to heat up.

For maintenance, clean the leaf juice and residual leaves from the blades in time after each use, and regularly add lubricating oil; mix fuel and change engine oil according to the manual; before long-term storage, drain the fuel and place the machine in a dry, ventilated place. Doing these details well will make the machine last longer and the picking results more stable.
