How Do You Grow Clivia Indoors?

Clivia is a flower that many friends are quite fond of, so today I will share with you how to grow clivia indoors.

How to Grow Clivia Indoors:

Soil selection. Clivia has fleshy roots and is suited to growing in loose, fertile soil with good aeration. Fertile, loose neutral or slightly acidic soil is the very best choice for clivia, and the choice of soil is a key factor in successfully cultivating clivia.

Watering. Remember one principle when watering clivia: do not water unless the soil is dry, and when you do water, water thoroughly. If you water too little at one time, the harm to the clivia is especially great. As for the timing of watering clivia, it is generally best to water in the morning or evening, and while watering you should avoid the heart of the plant, so as to prevent the heart from rotting.

Fertilizing. As for choosing fertilizer for clivia, phosphorus fertilizer and potassium fertilizer are beneficial to its growth, while nitrogen fertilizer can be applied sparingly. When fertilizing, you must be sure to control the amount; too much can easily cause the clivia's leaves to show scorched symptoms. In winter, before bringing the flower pot indoors, you can use bone meal, roasted sesame seeds, cooked soybeans or a compound fertilizer, watering it in once every 15 to 20 days.

Keeping warm. The suitable temperature for clivia's growth in winter is 15-20°C; do not let it go below 10°C, as clivia will suffer frost damage at 0°C, so good insulation measures must be taken in winter. Spraying Hushu Dajiangjun appropriately helps keep it warm and prevents freezing. Or, after the flower stem has emerged, be careful to maintain the indoor temperature, generally around 18°C is suitable.

Light. Plant growth needs light, and clivia particularly prefers scattered light and cannot be exposed to direct strong light. In winter, pay attention to the clivia's need for light; clivia grown indoors can be placed in a spot in the house with ample light, and if the clivia is about to bloom, it needs even more ample light to ensure the healthy development of the flower buds. Also ensure good ventilation and suitable light.
