What are the precautions for growing clivia?
1. Clivia (Clivia miniata) likes a semi-shaded, cool environment, and must be kept away from high temperatures, strong light and dryness. The most suitable temperature is 15-25°C; below 5°C it enters dormancy and stops growing, and high temperatures are unsuitable too, so shade it from summer heat. Otherwise the leaves become long and narrow, spoiling its ornamental value, so cool it down in good time.
2. During the growing period of clivia, keep the potting soil moist; during the semi-dormant high-temperature period the potting soil should be on the dry side, and spray water on the leaves often to bring the temperature down. Clivia likes fertilizer; repot it once every 2 to 3 years in spring or autumn, adding leaf mould to the potting soil. Turn the pot regularly to keep the leaves from leaning to one side.
