Why doesn't a clivia bloom after being grown for several years?

The clivia has been grown for several years, so why won't it bloom?

Clivia is one of the flowering plants that many friends quite like, and it is also fairly common on the market. Today I will share with everyone.

Clivia generally blooms in three to four years, and with good growth it can bloom in two and a half years. But some flower lovers have grown clivia for 5 to 7 years and it still won't bloom; or it blooms for one year and then never blooms again, and even when it does bloom, there are very few flowers. What is the reason for this?

1. In summer the sunlight is too strong, and it is placed in the sun for too long. The leaves are under high temperatures and consume a large amount of nutrients, and the leaves turn yellow and brown, which is unfavorable for bud formation and blooming in autumn. In summer, besides strengthening ventilation, it is also necessary to shade it and avoid direct sunlight.

2. Too much nitrogen fertilizer is applied and there is a lack of phosphorus fertilizer. Nitrogen fertilizer mainly grows leaves. During the flowering period, too much nitrogen fertilizer keeps the leaves green and lush, and the nutrients are still concentrated on vegetative growth, so flower buds are slow to differentiate and it is difficult for the flower stalk to shoot up. From September to mid-October, reduce the amount of nitrogen fertilizer applied and increase the amount of phosphorus fertilizer.

Phosphorus participates in the formation of anthocyanins and can promote flower bud differentiation, advance bud development, flower stalk shooting, and blooming.

3. In winter the indoor temperature is too low, below 10°C, photosynthesis is weak, growth is inhibited, and the flower stalk cannot emerge either. Keeping the daytime temperature at 18-20°C and the nighttime temperature not lower than 8°C is favorable for the flower stalk shooting up.

4. Placing the clivia in a shady spot for a long time, with insufficient sunlight, makes the leaves thin and yellow, affecting photosynthesis.

To sum up: when growing clivia, the winter room temperature should be no lower than 15°C during the day and no lower than 8°C at night. In summer it should be placed in a slightly shaded place, not in direct blazing sun. After September, give appropriate phosphorus fertilizer, such as well-fermented fish bone water, ammonium phosphate, etc.

That is all for sharing why a clivia won't bloom after being grown for several years. I believe everyone has gained some understanding. I hope this article is helpful to everyone, and I wish everyone good luck.
