Magnolia cultivation methods

Magnolia is also known as magnolia, xinyi, purple magnolia, wooden pen, etc. It is a deciduous small tree that can reach 5 m in height. The wood is fragrant, the branchlets are purplish brown, and the buds have fine hairs. The leaves are simple, alternate, obovate-elliptic; with stipule scars. The flowers are bisexual, solitary, terminal, with 3 sepals, yellow-green, lanceolate, about 1/3 the length of the petals; 6 petals, purplish red on the outside and nearly white on the inside; many stamens and pistils, the pistil group sessile. The fruit is oblong. The roots are fleshy.

1. Soil: Magnolia prefers fertile, moist, and well-drained sandy soil. It is not drought-tolerant and avoids alkaline soil. It grows poorly in dry, alkaline, or clay soil.

2. Watering: Magnolia avoids both drought and waterlogging. Usually ensure a supply of moisture and frequently spray the leaf surface with water to increase air humidity, so as to avoid yellowing and leaf drop.

3. Sunlight: Magnolia prefers light and is slightly shade-tolerant, so pay attention to the lighting issue in normal care and let the magnolia fully receive sunlight.

4. Temperature: Magnolia prefers a warm and humid climate and can also tolerate cold, but when the temperature is relatively low in winter, it still needs to be moved indoors for warm cultivation.

5. Fertilizing: Magnolia prefers fertilizer, so fertilize in time. Apply fertilizer once before and after the flowering period, mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. From October to November each year, apply decomposed manure or stable manure as a base fertilizer. After flowering, during the period of budding and branch growth, apply 2 to 3 topdressings of quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer.

6. Pests: The main pests of magnolia are Pittosporum cottony cushion scale, sooty mold, etc., which reduce its ornamental value. Spray with 1-3 degree lime sulfur mixture; during the nymph hatching period, use 40% omethoate emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times plus 10% pyridine wettable powder at 1500 times solution; when adults occur, use Kuangshajie 800-1000 times solution or 40% Supusha emulsifiable concentrate at 1500 times solution for uniform spraying. Adding an appropriate amount of diesel oil when spraying can increase its permeability, and at the same time the spray solution must be sprayed thoroughly and evenly.

7. Pruning: For magnolia to form a tree shape, it is necessary to remove tillers and sprouts and train the branches, which facilitates the growth of the magnolia's tree form.

Magnolia has always carried the meaning of purity and nobility. Because it has a tree form, it is often planted in places such as home courtyards. The magnolia's graceful appearance is relatively beautiful and it is deeply loved by people. That is all for the introduction here, and I hope it is helpful to everyone.
