How to care for Dendrobium orchids during the flowering period

Although Dendrobium orchids also have certain medicinal value and health benefits, they are more ornamental than ordinary Dendrobium. Therefore, many families grow Dendrobium orchids in pots not for medicinal use or health preservation, but for ornamentation. After all, potted Dendrobium orchids are very beautiful during the flowering period. But we cannot just focus on admiring the flowers; we also need to do a good job of care during the flowering period. So, what are the methods?

In fact, when growing Dendrobium orchids in pots, care during the flowering period is very simple. Generally, we only need to focus on doing a good job in two aspects of management to achieve the effect of extending the flowering period, while also keeping the flowers as beautiful as ever. To do a good job of care during the flowering period, we usually need to do well in these two aspects:

1. A good environment

Dendrobium orchids prefer a semi-shaded growing environment, so during the flowering period they can neither lack light nor have too strong light. The flowering period of Dendrobium orchids can usually last from January to June, but in the latter half of the flowering period the light intensity is often relatively strong, so it is essential to ensure that the light in the care environment is both sufficient and not exposed to direct sunburn. Therefore, during the flowering period, the pot should be placed in a spot with sufficient scattered light for care, and if the light is too strong, shade it in time.

Not only is light very important, but the care environment also needs to ensure good ventilation conditions. However, good ventilation does not mean placing the pot in a place with obvious drafts; rather, it means ensuring smooth air circulation in the care environment, with just a slight breeze being enough. Even if there is no breeze, as long as the pot is placed in a spacious, non-enclosed environment, it is also fine.

2. Maintain moderate humidity

Moderation is very important for Dendrobium, and for Dendrobium orchids it is also an indispensable care condition. Whether it is ordinary Dendrobium or Dendrobium orchids, they all very much like a humid care environment. If the air is too dry, the plant will not only grow poorly, but its flowering effect will also be affected. Therefore, suitable humidity is a very important condition for both the growth and flowering of Dendrobium orchids.

In addition to choosing a good placement location, we also need to frequently spray mist and water to maintain moisture, but not by spraying water on the plant, since the plant is in the flowering period. Spraying water on the leaves can easily wet the flowers and affect the flowering effect, and in severe cases can even cause flower drop, flower rot, and shorten the flowering period. Therefore, generally we only need to spray the space around the plant and the growing medium in the pot to maintain moisture.

For Dendrobium orchids in the flowering period, there are not many aspects that need management; usually we only need to do a good job with light and humidity management. And as long as these two aspects are done well, Dendrobium orchids will not only have a long flowering period, but also bloom more brilliantly and gorgeously, and the ornamental value of the entire potted plant will be very high. This situation can even last for about half a year. Therefore, we can fully enjoy the beauty of Dendrobium orchids when they bloom.
