Do you know how kaffir lilies (Clivia miniata) should be grown without soil for the best growth?

To grow kaffir lilies (Clivia miniata) using soilless culture, we should pay attention to the following:

1. Growing medium.

You can use peat soil, vermiculite, expanded clay pebbles and perlite, among which expanded clay pebbles and perlite give the ideal results.

2. Preparing the nutrient solution.

The formula for making the nutrient solution yourself is an average of 68.5 mg of monopotassium phosphate, 236 mg of calcium nitrate, 132 mg of ammonium sulfate, 246 mg of magnesium sulfate and 174 mg of potassium sulfate per liter of water, with trace elements at the standard amount. You can also buy a soilless culture nutrient solution or a special nutrient solution for kaffir lilies (Clivia miniata) on the market, and dilute it with cooled boiled water according to the specified ratio.

3. Selecting seedlings and washing the roots.

Take those kaffir lily (Clivia miniata) plants that grow vigorously and have a good plant shape out of the flower pot, shake off the old soil without damaging the roots of the plant, and place them in water close to the ambient temperature to soak, wash the root system clean, and at the same time remove the rotten roots, then place its roots in the already prepared nutrient solution to soak for 8 hours to 12 hours, so that it can absorb nutrients.

4. Planting and potting up.

Choose a slightly deeper plastic pot or ceramic pot, line the bottom of the pot with a layer of thick plastic sheeting, on top of which first place 2 cm to 5 cm or so of expanded clay pebbles that have been soaked in water, then fill a layer of moist perlite about 2 cm to 5 cm thick and press it down lightly. Lay the kaffir lily (Clivia miniata) horizontally in a large flower pot, add moist perlite between the roots of the plant, cup the roots with both hands and gently place them into the pot, trying not to let the perlite wrapped between the roots fall off, then immediately fill in moist perlite from around it until the flower pot is eighty percent full, noting that you only need to bury up to the root crown. On top of that add a layer of expanded clay pebbles to prevent the perlite particles from being washed away when adding water or pouring in the nutrient solution, or to prevent ugly green algae from forming on the surface of the growing medium due to sun exposure, and place a shallow saucer under the bottom of the flower pot to prevent water seepage.

5. Adding and pouring the nutrient solution.

After the kaffir lily (Clivia miniata) plant has been planted, you can pour in the already prepared nutrient solution until water seeps out of the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot, and at the same time spray some clean water on the leaves.
