Do orchid leaves with scorched tips need to be cut off?

Many friends like to grow orchids in pots at home, but quite a few of them find that this plant is fairly prone to scorched leaf tips. When the originally glossy green leaves develop scorched tips, it inevitably reduces the ornamental value of the potted plant. So, .

The appearance of scorched tips on orchid leaves may be caused by normal physiological metabolism, or it may be caused by pathological factors. But whether it is produced by normal metabolism or by disease, the scorched tip part usually needs to be cut off in time, otherwise it may continue to spread, and at the very least it will affect the appearance.

But pruning also requires skill. If pruned improperly, it will not only further reduce the plant's ornamental value, but may even cause new adverse symptoms. For pruning, there are usually three methods:

1. Use scissors to directly cut off the scorched tip part horizontally, that is, keep the scissors perpendicular to the leaf and simply cut off the scorched tip part. Make the wound formed stay perpendicular to the leaf, and this pruning method is the best. This method is usually called straight cutting.

2. Use scissors to cut from the leaf edge below the scorched tip part at a certain angle, usually cutting at a 45-degree angle, and this is usually also called side cutting. The result of this kind of pruning is a relatively wide wound, but it can make the leaf more attractive.

3. Likewise at a certain angle, cut from the leaf edge below the scorched tip part, and both edges of the leaf should be pruned in this way, making the two wounds symmetrical. But the wound surface caused by this kind of pruning is even larger, though the leaf looks more attractive after pruning.

But after pruning, if the leaf still develops fairly serious scorched tips, then it is recommended to cut off the entire leaf with the scorched tip along the base. After pruning, place the potted plant in a cool, ventilated spot and care for it carefully. Once the plant grows new leaves, the potted plant will look glossy green and neat.
