How to grow white champaca as a potted plant at home, and can white champaca be kept in an indoor bedroom?

White champaca is fairly common in the south, a very beautiful flowering tree, and its figure can generally be seen in parks or along roadsides. The flowers of white champaca are creamy white, especially beautiful, and come with waves of pleasant fragrance. So can white champaca be grown as a potted plant at home? Below, let's learn with the editor how to grow white champaca in pots.

How to grow white champaca as a potted plant at home

1. Choice of flower pot and soil: For a home potted white champaca, you should choose loose soil with strong air permeability and relatively rich humus for cultivation. Usually choose a clay pot with good air permeability, a purple clay pot (jar), or a plastic pot with more drainage holes in the bottom. The soil in the pot should preferably contain a certain amount of granular soil of varying sizes, to facilitate water drainage and air flow.

2. How to repot: According to the size of the white champaca's crown and the length of its age, replace it with a pot or jar of appropriate size, to help the plant grow vigorously. When doing this, wait until the potting soil is slightly dry, slowly tilt the pot (jar) (or turn it upside down), support the pot with one hand, hold the plant firmly with the other, and tip the white champaca out into the new pot. The new pot (jar) should first be lined with a small amount of loose soil, then watered thoroughly, and once planted firmly it is fine.

3. Planting position: From March to April each year, move the pot or jar containing the white champaca outdoors and place it in a spot with plenty of sunlight. Summer temperatures are high, so choose a shade net as appropriate or build a simple shade shed, so that the white champaca can both receive the morning sun and avoid the strong light of summer afternoons (to avoid burning the branches and leaves from exposure).

4. Pruning: For potted white champaca, choose a suitable height and use pruning shears to cut off the terminal bud and shorten some side branches. After the terminal bud is cut off, it helps grow more side branches, more flower buds, and more flowers.

5. Fertilizing: During the vigorous growth period of white champaca (usually May to June or July to August each year), apply flower fertilizer to the white champaca about once every half month, or apply a small amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium compound fertilizer at around 20, 2 grams to 6 grams each time. The specific operation is: first use a small iron shovel to draw a few vertical and horizontal small furrows in the soil in the pot, then slowly sprinkle the fertilizer into the furrows, then cover it with the surface soil in the pot, and water a little. Let the fertilizer gradually penetrate to the plant's roots with each watering. Never sprinkle the fertilizer directly onto the roots, to avoid burning the roots because the soil around the roots becomes too strongly fertilized. Apply thin fertilizer frequently, cake fertilizer is preferable, do not fertilize in winter, and from after new buds sprout until June, water with fertilizer water once every 3-4 days; from July to September, water with fertilizer water once every 5-6 days; after applying fertilizer several times, stop applying once.

Can white champaca be kept in an indoor bedroom?

White champaca has a strong fragrance, stimulates the nerves, causes excitement, and affects sleep, so it is best not to put it in the bedroom. Moreover, white champaca likes sufficient light and good ventilation. A bedroom has insufficient light and is not suitable for growing white champaca.

How to water white champaca

Spring is the budding period of white champaca, and watering can be done once every 2-3 days, as long as the potting soil is kept moist;

Summer is the vigorous growth period of white champaca, and watering should be done once in the morning and once in the evening every day, but during heavy rain or continuous rainy weather, the accumulated water in the pot should be dealt with promptly;

In autumn, the plant's transpiration begins to decrease and water evaporation becomes less, so at this time the amount of watering should be determined according to the specific dry and wet condition of the potting soil. When the surface layer of the potting soil turns white, it indicates watering is needed, and usually watering can be done once about every 5 days;

In winter, white champaca needs very little water, and you should prevent the potting soil from becoming excessively wet and from forming accumulated water. If accumulated water occurs at the roots, the leaves will turn red and the branch tips will turn brown. The accumulated water should be poured off as soon as possible, and loosening the soil and strengthening ventilation should be carried out. Usually water once about every 10 days, keeping the potting soil slightly moist.

When does white champaca bloom?

It generally grows flowers in summer and autumn each year, and the farther south the geographical location, the earlier the flowering time. If planted in Shenzhen, its flowers can be seen in midsummer. Its flowering period is relatively long, and can even last 1 month. In daily care, be careful not to plant it in too wet low-lying land, and unless there is drought, there is no need to water it artificially. Fertilizing should also be moderate.

Many people like to grow all kinds of potted plants at home. In fact, the editor wants to remind friends who love flowers and cherish flowers that although most plants generally have a certain air-purifying effect, there are also quite a few plants in daily life that cannot be grown indoors.
