What is a yellow-fat pig? Let's hear what pig buyers say
What is a "yellow-fat pig"? Have you ever heard pig buyers talk about "yellow-fat pigs"?
1. Causes
The main cause of this disease is feeding too much unsaturated fatty acid glycerides, or insufficient vitamin E, causing anti-acid pigments to accumulate in adipose tissue. In particular, feeding large amounts of fishmeal, fish offal, cod liver oil by-products, silkworm pupae, etc., can all cause yellow fat disease.

2. Key points for diagnosis
(1) Clinical symptoms. For pigs with yellow fat disease, diagnosis before death is difficult, and sick pigs show no special symptoms. Usually the coat is rough, the pig is lethargic and weak, and the mucous membranes are pale. Most sick pigs have poor appetite and grow slowly. Lameness sometimes occurs. There are secretions from the eyes.
(2) Pathological changes. The fat and body cavity fat show varying degrees of yellowing, while other tissues and organs show no yellow staining. Jaundice is different: in pigs with jaundice, the skin, mucous membranes, subcutaneous fat, aponeurotic ligaments, cartilage surfaces, tissue fluid, joint capsule fluid and internal organs all appear yellow.
3.Prevention and treatment
The prevention of yellow fat disease mainly lies in adjusting the diet, limiting the feeding of fish products or silkworm pupae, and when necessary feeding 500-700 mg of vitamin E per day, which has a certain effect. If yellow fat has already formed, it takes a relatively long time to remove all the anti-acid pigments from the tissues before results can be seen.
