How to carefully tend clivia to avoid soft rot attacks.

When growing clivia, we need to care for it attentively, and not let soft rot bacteria constantly invade through wounds. When the disease strikes, pale yellow water-soaked spots appear on the leaves, then expand into irregular lesions, turning the leaves into a brown soft rotting mass, with bacterial fluid flowing from the wounded lesions.

Prevention and control methods:

1. Maintain a clean, well-ventilated, light-transmitting growing environment, water moderately, and do not water with virus-contaminated wastewater. Apply topdressing with different ratios of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium according to the different seasons, and strive to cultivate robust plants to improve disease resistance. During the bud stage, spray Huaduozhuangdiling to promote strong buds, plump petals, vivid flower color and a longer flowering period.

2. Once this disease is found, immediately separate the diseased plants, dig away the potting soil around the plants to expose the affected parts, scrape off the rotten parts with a sterilized knife, expose them to appropriate sunlight, and keep them ventilated and dry; if many plants are rotting, cut away all diseased tissue, soak for 1 hour in an aqueous solution of an appropriate amount of potassium permanganate plus Xingao Zhimo, rinse with clean water and let dry, then apply Yushang Fangfumo to the cuts to promote wound healing and prevent bacterial invasion. Repot in new pots and place in a well-ventilated spot that is not too warm.
