Difference between white variegation and yellow variegation in Bear's Paw

There are currently three main types of the succulent Bear's Paw (Cotyledon tomentosa). One is the original-color plant, whose leaves are entirely tender green, and it can be called the green Bear's Paw. In fact, the other two mainly come from variegation mutations:

One has some white patches on the leaves, which we can call the white-variegated Bear's Paw; the other has some yellow patches on the leaves, which we can call the yellow-variegated Bear's Paw. So how do we distinguish the white variegation from the yellow variegation in Bear's Paw? Actually, it is very easy to tell them apart. Below, the editor will explain the identification methods for these two variegated Bear's Paw mutations.

The green Bear's Paw is its original color, and it is very easy to distinguish here: just check whether the leaves are all green with no patches of other colors, and you can identify it. The trickier part is how to distinguish the white variegation from the yellow variegation in Bear's Paw.

Original-color Bear's Paw

Yellow Bear's Paw

White Bear's Paw

From the comparison of the images above, we find that: actually, we can distinguish these two derived new varieties by judging the position of the variegation color, namely:

Usually, in the yellow-variegated Bear's Paw, the variegation is in the middle, that is, the slightly yellow patches are in the middle part of the leaf, slightly translucent, while the leaf edges are mostly green; in the white-variegated Bear's Paw, the variegation is on both sides of the leaf, that is, the slightly white patches are on the leaf edges, with the middle being green. Of course, sometimes the entire leaf will also turn white, with the variegation being more complete.

Through the above identification methods, we can effectively tell whether the Bear's Paw has white variegation or yellow variegation.
