How to treat twig blight on the Peace Lily tree

The Peace Lily tree (Cinnamomum kotoense) is an evergreen small tree grown for its foliage, most often kept as a potted plant for ornamental display or to beautify a space. It can also improve indoor air quality and carries an auspicious meaning, which is why it is so popular with potted plant enthusiasts. However, the Peace Lily tree is fairly prone to twig blight. The Peace Lily tree is also called cinnamon, so this disease is usually also known as cinnamon blight, and it is an extremely destructive disease.

Twig blight is usually a disease caused by fungal infection of the plant. When a Peace Lily tree is attacked by twig blight, the direct symptom is that the branches and leaves tend to dry out and turn black; in mild cases it affects the ornamental look, and in severe cases it can kill the plant. This condition in the Peace Lily tree is mainly caused by overwatering, poor permeability in the pot, and an environment that is too hot and humid with poor ventilation.

First, we need to move the plant outdoors to a fairly bright, well-ventilated spot, and then cut off the infected parts. When pruning, note that you must cut off all the dried and blackened parts of the branches. The cut should also be kept about 5 cm away from the infected area, cutting off the infected upper part of the branch so that the wound shows fresh, healthy tissue.

But doing this alone inevitably leaves something behind, and twig blight may still continue to infect and spread. So we also need to use fungicides such as carbendazim, thiophanate-methyl, and chlorothalonil for further sterilization and disinfection. Dilute them with water according to the instructions, then simply drench the roots with the solution. Generally do this once a week, and 2-3 times in a row is enough to clear out the harmful pathogens.

Of course, since the potted Peace Lily tree became infected because of a poor care environment, we also need to address the root cause and improve the environment, making sure it has smooth ventilation and ample light, suitable for the growth of the Peace Lily tree. After caring for it this way for a period, once the plant puts out new branches and leaves again, it will return to normal growth and ornamental condition.

It is important to note that all the diseased branches and leaves we cut from the Peace Lily tree must be collected and disposed of together, since they still carry a large amount of pathogens. If they are left sitting in the pot, the pathogens will infect the potted plant again and cause the same symptoms. This disease is also quite stubborn and spreads and infects easily, so be sure to destroy the debris in a centralized way and never throw it away carelessly.
