Daffodil Propagation Methods: Two Propagation Methods, Seed Sowing and Bulb Division

Daffodil is a very beautiful flowering plant. Unlike Chinese narcissus, it has larger flowers and rich, vivid colors. Daffodils have very high ornamental value and are often grown at home. What I want to discuss here is daffodil propagation methods; daffodil propagation methods include seed sowing propagation and bulb division propagation. Below I will explain these two propagation methods in detail, hoping to provide useful help.

Daffodil Propagation Methods

1. Seed Sowing Propagation

When choosing seed sowing propagation for daffodils, it is best to do it in mid-September. For the growing medium, you can use a mix of leaf mold and peat soil, or a small amount of coarse sand blended in.

Before sowing, we must first sterilize the medium, and after that is done, we can sow. With your care, they can sprout and grow into small plants in the spring of the following year, and by early summer the leaves and roots wither and small bulbs form.

2. Bulb Division Propagation

The best time for daffodil bulb division propagation is autumn, and the bulbs used are the small bulbs that grow on both sides of the daffodil mother bulb. The mother bulb should not be planted too deep or too shallow, as this helps speed up propagation.

If it is planted relatively deep, fewer daughter bulbs will form. Use a blade to cut the bulb: make 3-4 cross-cuts from the basal plate toward the top, with a depth of about half the bulb.

Then place the bulb in clean dry sand to facilitate callus formation. Then move it to a propagation box at a temperature of 21°C for culturing. When the temperature rises to 30°C and the humidity is maintained at 85%, most daughter bulbs will be produced after three months.

After we remove these daughter bulbs, we can carry out bulb division propagation. The daughter bulbs need to be cultivated for about 3-4 years before they become flowering bulbs.

Conclusion: The above are daffodil propagation methods, namely seed sowing propagation and bulb division propagation. When propagating, you can choose the propagation method that suits your conditions to ensure the plant survival rate.
