What causes a peace lily tree to drop leaves at the bottom?

The peace lily tree not only has a nice name, but its symbolic meaning is also very auspicious. Add to that its broad, glossy green leaves and its fine ornamental value, and many plant lovers like to grow it as a household potted plant, whether for viewing, for accenting the home environment, or for purifying indoor air, and the results are usually very good. So a potted peace lily tree at home is very practical.
But in the course of day-to-day care and management, many plant lovers very easily run into the phenomenon of the peace lily tree dropping leaves. The most common case is the shedding of old leaves, and specifically the old leaves at the bottom. For a foliage potted plant, this is unacceptable no matter what.
Since the leaves at the bottom of the peace lily tree are all old leaves, if a small number of leaves turn yellow and drop off, and the other green leaves do not drop, this is usually a reflection of its metabolism and is a normal phenomenon. So for the peace lily tree, a small number of leaves dropping at the bottom, with no further drop after that, is usually a normal phenomenon.
But if it frequently drops leaves from the bottom, then it may not be normal. It is mostly caused by a poor care environment; although the old leaves below develop very fully, they also age and become fragile more easily. The lower leaves not only receive less light, but also have poorer ventilation than the upper ones. So whenever the plant grows poorly, the old leaves at the bottom are very easily shed.
Generally, under conditions of relatively poor light and poor ventilation, the old leaves at the bottom of the peace lily tree are quite likely to drop. The old lower leaves not only have a darker leaf color and do not look as good as new leaves, but also grow very slowly, not full of vigor and spirit like the new leaves above. And their ability to compete for nutrients is also weaker than that of new leaves, so they very easily drop due to insufficient nutrients in the pot.
Therefore, when the peace lily tree shows leaf drop from the bottom, it is mostly caused by a lack of light and poor ventilation in the care environment, along with a lack of nutrients in the pot, or it is caused by the potting soil becoming compacted or severely salinized. Of course, pests and diseases cannot be ruled out either; some pests and diseases tend to cause old leaves to drop quite easily. So we need to investigate promptly, find the specific cause, and then apply the right remedy to fix it.
