How to properly provide health care and reduce inflammation in sows after farrowing?

How should sows be properly given health care and anti-inflammatory treatment after farrowing?
Sows are the foundation of the entire pig farm, but because of reproduction, sows often suffer from some obstetric diseases due to infection, such as metritis, uterine erosion, etc. Therefore, health care and anti-inflammatory treatment for sows after farrowing are crucial.

Post-farrowing health care and anti-inflammatory treatment for sows can be approached from two aspects:

1. Regulate the sow's immunity and reproductive system: expel endotoxins from the body, while purifying the bacteria in the sow's body, so that there is always an effective blood drug concentration in the sow's blood, reducing the occurrence of disease.

2. Use traditional Chinese and Western medicine for health care: in sow raising, it can reduce vertical transmission of sow diseases, and in piglet raising it can reduce the occurrence of piglet diarrhea, enhance disease resistance, and protect both the sow and the piglets. For the choice of injections, if the sow is relatively strong when giving birth and the farrowing process is relatively short, within 4 hours, the general drug should be given by intrauterine infusion or injection 1-2 times; if the farrowing process exceeds 4 hours, inject 2-3 times; if longer, intravenous infusion is needed. There are many drugs for post-farrowing anti-inflammatory treatment, generally as follows:

1. Intrauterine infusion drugs. Direct intrauterine infusion is best, but it must not damage the uterine villi. It is suitable for pig farms of all sizes. Drugs can reach the uterus directly, the medication is relatively direct, the effect is relatively good, and the operation is relatively convenient.

⟧2. Ordinary Western medicine injections, such as penicillin and streptomycin, arepig farmsused relatively often. The effect of penicillin and streptomycin is still not bad, but there are also many drawbacks. Penicillin drugs have a narrow antibacterial spectrum and short duration of efficacy, and the peak blood drug level can only last for 6-8 hours. In addition, drug resistance is serious, and the actual dosage generally has to be increased. Generally, for a 350 jin sow, 7-8 vials of penicillin and 4-5 vials of streptomycin are used, twice a day for 2-3 consecutive days, and other drugs also need to be compounded. However, it cannot promote the discharge of lochia and restore the uterine mucosa. The overall cost is relatively high, the labor intensity is relatively great, and the operation is inconvenient.

  3. Use 5-gram packages of an anti-inflammatory drug called "ceftiofur",free-range householdsuse it more. Ceftiofur is slightly yellow. You can tell just by looking at the drug color and actual dosage. In fact, it is generally penicillin; for better ones, some ampicillin combined with some analgin is used, so it appears white, and that is good. Many use starch or glucose. As post-farrowing anti-inflammatory treatment for sows, the anti-inflammatory effect is fast and the duration is short. In some cases, the fever drops too quickly, and the sow not only refuses to eat feed, but also experiences milk let-down cessation. I feel this is not very good.

4. Some pig farms use oxytetracycline. Oxytetracycline is broad-spectrum and long-acting, and its anti-inflammatory effect is still acceptable. At the same time, it also has an effect on eperythrozoon. The drawback is that it is oily, difficult to inject, and has poor absorbability. If the blood drug concentration cannot be reached, it cannot produce a good effect. Injection is rather laborious, and divided injections are also inconvenient.

5. Some large pig farms use real ceftiofur sodium; one vial costs nearly more than 20 yuan. The effect is good, but the cost is high, and it is rarely used in practice.

As I see it, a good post-farrowing anti-inflammatory injection should have the following aspects:

(1) Long-acting broad-spectrum antibacterial;

(2) Can help the uterus recover quickly;

(3) Speed up the rapid discharge of lochia;

(4) The cost should not be too high;

(5) The operation should be relatively convenient.

Note: If the postpartum sow has a very good feed intake, try to administer the drug by mixing it into the feed. The selected drugs can be antiviral, anti-eperythrozoon, and antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. (Source: Pig Raising Online)
