Orchid Bud Drop: Causes and Solutions Explained in Detail

1. Raise the Temperature
1. Cause: Most orchids are not cold-tolerant. If, during the bud stage, it is kept in a spot that is too cold, its buds may drop prematurely and fail to bloom.
2. Solution: Move the plant to a warmer room for care, ideally keeping the temperature between 20-25°C. This is more conducive to it blooming.
2. Increase Sunlight
1. Cause: Because it is not tolerant of strong light, it normally needs to be kept in a semi-shaded spot. But once it reaches the bud stage, if it is still kept in semi-shade, it may drop its buds due to insufficient light.
2. Solution: It should promptly be moved to a spot with long hours of soft sunlight. In addition, a lamp can be turned on near it to supplement the sunlight.
3. Apply Fertilizer
1. Cause: Its buds need nutrient support to open successfully. If it has not accumulated enough nutrients normally and the growing medium is also low in nutrients, it may drop its buds due to nutrient deficiency.
2. Solution: Spray it with a phosphorus-containing compound flower fertilizer to supplement nutrients. But note that the flower fertilizer must not be a type with too high a nitrogen content.
