Can spraying monopotassium phosphate on goldfish plant promote flowering?

Goldfish plant, also called goldfish flower, is an evergreen flowering plant that grows quickly, sprouts vigorously and tolerates pruning well. But maintaining rapid growth and abundant flowering depends on a sufficient supply of nutrients, and the simplest, most direct way to supplement nutrients is to fertilize it. Especially if you want to promote flowering, you must make sure phosphorus and potassium are sufficient.

Goldfish plant is a flowering plant grown mainly for its blooms, and to promote flowering it usually also needs a timely supplement of phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Monopotassium phosphate is a fertilizer whose main nutrients are phosphorus and potassium, and for many flowering plants it can promote bud formation and flowering.

Monopotassium phosphate and Huaduoduo No. 2 are both flower-promoting fertilizers commonly used by gardeners. If we want goldfish plant to bloom more and burst into a full pot of flowers, we usually need to add some flower-promoting fertilizer. Practice has shown that both monopotassium phosphate and Huaduoduo No. 2 can be used to promote flowering in goldfish plant.

However, during the growing season of goldfish plant, we generally rely mainly on a multi-element fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, which both promotes its growth and creates conditions for later flowering. Although monopotassium phosphate can also serve as a flower-promoting fertilizer for goldfish plant, it is usually only suitable near the flowering period, either sprayed on the leaves or watered into the roots, both of which work. So goldfish plant can indeed be sprayed with monopotassium phosphate, but you need to master the key points of application.

Generally, when buds begin to form, we can spray goldfish plant with a dilute monopotassium phosphate solution once every 10 days to half a month. If watering it into the roots, dissolve and dilute it in the proper ratio and use it instead of plain water when the goldfish plant needs watering. If spraying the leaves, besides controlling the concentration well, it is best to apply it as a fine mist so the leaves absorb it better.

When the leaves of goldfish plant have fully absorbed the phosphorus and potassium nutrients, they can better promote bud formation and the growth, development and maturation of the flower buds. Once the buds have formed and are about to open, it is advisable to stop spraying the monopotassium phosphate solution in time. Generally, there is no need to spray fertilizer solution on goldfish plant during flowering, but after the flowering period ends, it often needs a top dressing to promote recovery and growth. However, fertilizing after flowering is generally done after pruning, and it is not advisable to apply monopotassium phosphate as a top dressing; instead, focus on supplementing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium nutrients.
