Why Lily Flower Stamens Should Be Removed and How to Care for Lilies

Lily flowers are fairly large with snowy white petals, and they are often used as bouquets and as cut flowers at home; they are all very beautiful and attractive. Lily flowers have a rich fragrance, and many people like to grow some at home, so how do you care for lilies at home? When growing lilies, why should the stamens be removed?
How do you care for lilies?
1. Choosing flowers
When going to the market to buy flowers, absolutely do not buy the kind that are all fully in bloom, as they definitely will not last a few days. Because the flowering period is limited, flowers that are already in full bloom will certainly fade quickly. You can appropriately choose some with more stamens, especially the kind that have opened a little but are not fully open. There is also no need to choose all buds, because blooming flowers need nutrients; if they are all buds showing no sign of opening at all, then certainly the branches and leaves would almost die before the flowers even bloom. Therefore, when buying flowers, choose flowers that are about to open, the kind that are going to bloom but are not fully open.
2. Change the water frequently
Some people just buy the flowers and then ignore them. That is not right. Lilies need frequent water changes so the flowers can absorb fresh water. However, there is no need to change it every day. Generally, in summer, it should be changed once every two days; if it is winter, once a week is fine; in spring and autumn, once every three or four days is enough. Generally speaking, the higher the temperature, the more frequently the water should be changed.
3. Do not add water more than 3 cm above the absorption point
When growing lilies in water, do not fill the water too full. After all, lilies are not like those organisms that grow in water, such as lotus, and so on. Generally, for lilies grown in water, do not add water more than 3 cm above the absorption point.
4. Add "ingredients" to the water
The lilies in flower shops always have a long flowering period, but lilies bought and grown by ordinary households easily wither. So what is going on? This has to do with flower-growing techniques. You can add a few drops of plant nutrient solution to the water to supplement the nutrients the flowers need. Because it is always impossible for flowers to stay alive relying only on water. At home, we can also add a little white sugar to the water, which can also extend the flowering period.
5. Pruning
If you want lilies to last a long time, you need to pay attention to pruning, as the stems will inevitably rot after being soaked in water for a long time. Pruning every day is to keep the absorption point renewed so that the lilies can absorb fresh water and nutrients every day. The pruning length does not need to be too long; about one cm is enough.
6. Sprinkling water
Some people say that flowers with dewdrops are the most beautiful. In fact, there is some truth to this. Flowers need nutrients, and when the air is dry, they cannot be supplied by the water below alone. You can use a spray bottle to sprinkle some water on the stamens and leaves every day, and the flowers will look much more lively and last a bit longer.
Why should lily flower stamens be removed?
Generally, the lilies whose stamens need to be removed are mainly used as cut flowers. When arranging flowers, in order to keep the flowers as attractive as possible, the pollen on the lily stamens can easily rub onto the petals and affect their appearance; sometimes it also rubs onto people, is not easy to wash off, and can also cause allergic reactions in some people. So the stamens of lily flowers need to be removed.
In addition, there is another reason: if the pollen on the lily stamens accidentally gets onto the stigma, the flower may think it has already been pollinated, and then the flower will wither and turn to producing seeds, which will affect the ornamental value of the lily. So removing the stamens is also to extend the flowering period.
The above is an introduction to caring for lilies and removing the stamens. Lily is a kind of flower that is relatively difficult to grow; it needs sufficient light but cannot be directly exposed to sunlight, and usually needs shading, yet if there is not enough light, the plant will find it hard to bloom, and the leaves will also turn yellow and fall off. Some varieties also need artificial lighting. So before caring for lilies, you must understand the relevant care knowledge well.
