Abnormal Pig Urine Signals Major and Minor Diseases, Pig Farmers Need to Be Alert

Abnormal Pig Urine, Major and Minor Diseases Are Coming!
Normal pig urine is colorless or slightly pale yellow, a liquid free of foreign matter. Sows mostly urinate with the hind legs slightly bent, passing a large volume of urine quickly; boars stand still in a normal posture, taking longer and urinating somewhat more slowly.

If the color of the pig's urine contains foreign matter, and the frequency of urination and urination posture have changed, a preliminary diagnosis of a diseased pig can be made.

1. Increased urination frequency (frequent urination)

The pig noticeably urinates more often,

but the volume of each urination decreases, and the posture during urination is abnormal. This is generally seen mostly in cystitis, or bladder or urethral stones.

2. Oliguria or anuria

The number of urinations decreases,

and the volume of each urination also decreases; this is mostly seen in acute nephritis or severe dehydration of the body.

Straining frequently but unable to pass urine,

this is mostly bladder rupture, or obstruction of the ureter or urethra.

3. Hemoglobinuria (soy-sauce-colored urine)

The urine is tea-colored or soy-sauce-colored,

with no sediment forming after standing, and no red blood cells under microscopic examination, but hemoglobin is present. This condition is mostly seen inparasitic diseases, such as leptospirosis and eperythrozoonosis.

4. Cloudy urine

The urine passed by the pig is white and cloudy;

if no sediment forms after standing, it is bacteriuria; if flocculent sediment forms after standing, it is pyuria, mostly caused by infection of the urinary system. Sometimes, with bladder or urethral stones, a lime-like powder can be seen at the urethral opening.

5. Hematuria

A judgment can be made based on the time period during urination in which hematuria appears.

If blood appears at the start of urination and normal urine is passed in the middle and final segments, this indicates infection of the anterior urethra; if normal urine is passed at the start and blood appears in the final segment, it is mostly acute cystitis or bladder stones; if blood is present throughout the entire urination, then there may be a problem with the kidneys.

Diseases of the urinary systemtreatment

Infections of the urinary system,

mostly caused by anaerobic bacteria, sotreatmentshould select drugs to which anaerobic bacteria are sensitive.

For cystitis, urethritis, nephritis, etc.,

for individual cases, Houttuynia cordata injection combined with lincomycin by intramuscular injection; for herd outbreaks, lincomycin-spectinomycin in the feed. At the same time, strengthen environmental hygiene management in the pig house and carry out regular disinfection.

For bladder stones and urethral stones,

there is no specific regimentreatmentand the recurrence rate is high; after diagnosis, it is recommended to cull directly.
