How to keep water lilies in a vase

Water lilies are deeply loved by flower enthusiasts for their long blooming period and their gorgeous, lovely flowers. They also come in many varieties with very rich colors, and can be grown not only in the traditional way in pots, but also as cut flowers in water. The key point is that even when we cut the flower stems of water lilies and place them in a vase, they can still be expected to bloom, as beautiful and lovely as when grown in pots.

However, when growing water lilies in water in a vase, we also need to master certain methods. First, it is recommended to place them in a vase in spring. Second, the length of the cut flower stems should be appropriate, generally maintaining a suitable ratio to the depth of the vase. Finally, the depth at which the stems are inserted should be appropriate, meaning the amount of water in the vase should ideally fill 2/3 of its volume, and the base of the stems must not touch the bottom of the vase.

In fact, under normal circumstances, the care and management of water lilies in a vase is also very simple and effortless. Besides providing sufficient light, the most important thing is to change the water in time. That is to say, when other conditions are relatively suitable, we usually only need to provide light and change the water frequently to ensure they survive and grow, and eventually bloom with beautiful flowers as expected.

1. Sufficient light

Water lilies grown in pots love light very much. The more sufficient the light, the more vigorously they grow, and the more brilliantly and gorgeously they bloom. Likewise, if water lilies are grown in water in a vase, sufficient light is also needed to ensure they can carry out photosynthesis normally. But at the same time, note that in summer, direct sun exposure must be avoided, because the intensity of direct sunlight in summer is great and can easily cause the water temperature in the vase to rise suddenly. When the water temperature is too high, it can not only easily scald the water lilies, but in severe cases may even cause death.

Of course, if we grow water lilies in a vase, it is generally done indoors, so the light is relatively easy to control, and direct sun exposure usually does not occur. But at the same time, many homes often have poor indoor lighting, causing water lilies to grow poorly due to insufficient light. Therefore, the place where we usually put the water lilies should not be too hidden; it should be bright and facing the sun, and the air in the environment should circulate smoothly. Only in this way can we ensure that the water lilies in the vase grow well and bloom gorgeously.

2. Change the water in time

When we grow water lilies in water in a vase, the water lilies mainly obtain nutrients from the water to promote growth, so besides the water quality we use needing to be clean, it should also contain certain nutrients. Changing the water frequently can not only ensure the water quality is clean, but also make it easier for the water lilies to obtain more nutrients from the water. In this way, the water lilies not only grow better, but also bloom better.

But if we do not change the water in time, over time substances harmful to the growth of water lilies will naturally fall or settle into the water, which may spoil the water quality and then produce harmful bacteria in the water, bringing a huge impact on the healthy growth of the water lilies. Therefore, if you grow water lilies in water in a vase and want them to grow well and bloom gorgeously, you must change the water in time. It is recommended to change the water once every week, which is relatively reasonable. And you also need to consider changing the water as appropriate according to changes in water quality.
