Should the flowers of the peace lily be cut off once they turn green?

Once the flowers of the peace lily turn green, they need to be cut off; simply use sterilized scissors to cut them off from the very base of the flower, and after this pruning is done, more nutrients can be effectively prevented from being consumed excessively. In addition, withered, yellowed and diseased leaves can be cut off as well, keeping the whole plant open and airy. When repotting each year, prune the root system a little to encourage strong root growth.

The flowers of the peace lily should be cut off once they turn green

The flowers of the peace lily turning green is a natural phenomenon, and since the blooms have little ornamental value, they can be cut off. When pruning, simply cut them off from the very base of the flower, which can effectively prevent more nutrients from being consumed excessively and encourage full growth of the branches and leaves.

1. Pruning branches and leaves

To keep the plant looking attractive, the branches and leaves can be pruned appropriately, cutting off any yellowing, withered and diseased leaves so as to keep the whole plant open and airy, which benefits healthy and lush growth of the stems and leaves.

2. Pruning the root system

Each year when repotting, the root system needs to be pruned a little; after taking the plant out of the pot, clear away some of the soil around the roots, use sterilized scissors to cut off dead roots, old roots and rotted roots one by one, disinfect with a potassium permanganate solution, and finally replant in fresh potting soil.

3. Points to note

It should be noted that the best time for pruning is in spring, on a clear day, and the wounds should be disinfected promptly after pruning. Do not water or fertilize immediately after pruning, so as to avoid pathogen infection of the pruning wounds; generally this can be done only once the wounds have completely healed.
