Can a Snake Plant Survive If Its Core Has Rotted?

A snake plant with a rotted core cannot be saved. The snake plant is a typical tropical plant with thick, broad leaves and tenacious vitality, but if rot appears in the leaf core, the mature plant cannot be saved. You need to immediately cut complete, healthy leaves from the plant body for cuttings to cultivate new plants.

Can a Snake Plant with a Rotted Core Be Saved?

1. It cannot be saved

If a snake plant develops a rotted core, it cannot be saved. This plant has thick, broad leaves and very tenacious vitality, but if even the leaf core has rotted, then it is impossible to fully save it. The only option is to propagate new plants for care by cutting and replanting; the original plant cannot be saved.

2. Cutting treatment

Take the snake plant with the rotted core out of the soil, find the rotted part on the plant body, and use a sharp, sterilized knife to dig it out and cut it off. It must all be cut away. Then select the healthy leaves and cut them into small pieces about 5 cm long. After disinfecting, place them in a cool place to dry in the shade for a period of time.

3. Cutting steps

Take out the snake plant cuttings whose wounds have basically shrunk and no longer have excess moisture remaining, apply rooting powder, and then insert them into a loose mixed substrate of sand and peat soil. Water a little to keep the soil slightly moist. These leaves will grow complete roots after about 30 days.

4. Care work

After cutting the snake plant leaves, note that the amount of water at the first watering should not be too much; keeping the soil slightly moist is enough. When watering, be careful not to splash water onto the plant's wounds. Provide appropriate shade, keep the plant in a semi-shady place, and increase ventilation to prevent rot. Once the root system is complete, it can be transplanted.
