How to ferment fruit peels into fertilizer

I. How to make fruit peel water

Prepare a variety of fruit peels, such as dragon fruit peel, lemon peel, banana peel, watermelon rind, tangerine peel, orange peel, and so on. Use a kitchen knife or a blender to chop the peels into small pieces, then prepare rice washing water and brown sugar. Put the fruit peels, rice washing water, and brown sugar into a plastic bucket at a ratio of 3:10:1. Be careful not to fill it to the top; filling it to 2/3 of the bucket's height is enough, to prevent the fruit peel water from expanding and bursting the bottle during fermentation.

II. How to ferment fruit peel water

After the fruit peel water is mixed well, close the lid of the plastic bucket tightly and carry out anaerobic fermentation. In the early stage of fermentation, open the lid every day to ventilate and exchange air to prevent the bottle from bursting. After ventilating, screw the lid back on, shake the plastic bucket, and continue fermenting. If you are worried about forgetting to open the bottle to release gas on a busy day, you can unscrew the bottle cap and put a balloon over the bottle opening. Once the balloon fills with gas and expands, release the gas.

III. How to water flowers with fruit peel water

Fruit peel water must be fully decomposed before it can be used to water flowers. Usually, when you observe that no gas is being produced in the plastic bucket and the fruit peel water smells not foul but only slightly sour, it means the fruit peel fertilizer is completely decomposed. It can then be diluted with water at 20 times and used to water flowers once every half month. The nutrient strength of fruit peel water is not high, but fruit peel water is acidic. Watering flowers with it regularly can adjust the pH of the soil, making it very suitable for acid-loving flowers, such as jasmine, camellia, gardenia, rhododendron, and so on.
