Spring is a great season for growing orchids - master these orchid care techniques

Spring is a season full of vitality. Friends who have grown orchids should know that whether orchid management in spring is done properly directly affects the orchids' growth throughout the whole year, so orchid care in spring must be taken seriously. Below, the editor will share with you some spring orchid care techniques.

1. Repot early

Spring is one of the best seasons for repotting and dividing orchids. If a potted orchid has filled its pot or the growing medium has not been changed for more than two years, you can use spring to repot and divide it. As long as the temperature is above 15°C, you can repot the orchid. It is recommended to repot as early as possible, not too late. Otherwise, after the new shoots emerge, you will miss the great opportunity for repotting. Before repotting and dividing, you should withhold water appropriately to make it easier to remove the orchid from the pot and avoid damaging the orchid roots.

2. Provide appropriate shade

If you want orchids to have good spirit and form in spring, you should provide appropriate shade and not expose them completely to strong light, because exposure to strong light will cause the leaves to lose their emerald green color, have less luster, and feel rough to the touch. It may even cause yellow leaves and yellow tips, and in severe cases even affect growth.

3. Apply light fertilizer frequently

After the Beginning of Spring, orchids gradually resume growth. The sprouting of new orchid shoots requires a large amount of nutrients, so fertilizer must be applied in time to supplement nutrients. For potted orchids that have not produced flower buds, apply 1 light fertilization around Qingming, and apply again after more than half a month; for those that have just finished blooming, wait for a rest period of about 10 days before fertilizing. Whether fertilizing potted orchids that have not bloomed or those that have already bloomed, it is best to do so in clear weather. Before fertilizing, withhold water appropriately for a better fertilizing effect.

4. Ventilate frequently

In spring, temperatures rise. If the weather is clear, appropriate ventilation is very important. When the temperature exceeds 10°C, you should open windows appropriately for ventilation to avoid the orchid seedlings becoming stuffy and developing diseases.

5. Disinfect in time

Do a good job in preventing pests and diseases, and disinfect the orchid room and orchid seedlings at the right time to prevent problems before they occur.
