How to grow succulents so they fill the pot

I. Choose good varieties

If you want your succulents to fill the pot, you can choose varieties that fill a pot easily, such as Graptopetalum mendozae, Graptopetalum paraguayense, Echeveria 'Hongzhilian', and Echeveria 'Tia'. These are easier to grow into a full pot.

II. Pinching and beheading

Succulents also have apical dominance, so if you want to encourage a full pot, you can pinch out the growing point by damaging the center of the leaf rosette. This stimulates lateral buds to sprout and grow, and once the lateral buds grow larger, they can create the look of a full pot. For some succulents that do not easily produce side branches, you can simply behead them. The cut top shoots can also be stuck into the soil beside them, which can speed up how quickly the pot fills out.

III. Plenty of light

Most succulents love sunlight. Only with sufficient light can they grow quickly, become sturdy, and fill the pot faster. So they should be kept in a spot with good light. Apart from shading them properly in summer, they should get plenty of sun in the other three seasons.

IV. Supplement with fertilizer

Fertilizing is also a very important factor. Apply enough base fertilizer when potting, do not neglect base fertilizer when repotting, and be sure to apply additional fertilizer during the vigorous growth stage later on.

V. Using chemicals to stimulate budding

If you want to achieve a full pot as quickly as possible, you can use chemicals. You can buy bud-stimulating hormone and apply it to the stems of the succulents. This can promote a large number of lateral buds to sprout and help achieve a full pot quickly. However, improper use may cause deformity, so it is not highly recommended.
