How to grow a sprouted onion as a potted plant

1. Planting conditions

After you find that an onion has sprouted, it is still edible, but you can also plant it as a potted plant so it can be placed at home for viewing. When planting, the surrounding climate needs to be mild and suitable; it is very difficult for it to survive in an environment with very low temperatures.

2. Selecting the onion

After the onion sprouts, select one with an intact appearance, no damage, and no pests or diseases for planting; this kind of onion has a higher survival rate and will not have too many problems later. If there is an onion at home that has not sprouted, you can buy it and leave it for four or five days, and it will sprout.

3. Peeling off the outer skin

There will be some hard old skin on the outside of the onion, and this outer skin needs to be peeled off first, but when peeling it, be sure not to damage the roots underneath, otherwise it will be very difficult to absorb nutrients to maintain growth. The terminal bud at the top should also not be removed; keeping it will promote the growth of green branches and leaves.

4. Taking out the young sprout

Cut the onion open from the middle, but avoid the part with the young sprout, and absolutely do not damage the young sprout. Take the young sprout out from it; if the outer wrapping part is not damaged, it can continue to be eaten.

5. Planting in a pot

Prepare a flower pot; you can use a moderately sized flower pot, and the material must be breathable, then fill it with loose, fertile soil. Dig a small hole in the soil, plant the onion into the pot, with the top of the onion exposed above the soil surface, and after planting, pay attention to management, ensuring good conditions such as light and water.
