Common Problems with Moon Orchids and Their Solutions

Things to Note When Moon Orchid Seedlings Emerge

After the seedlings emerge, the soil surface should not be dry and the soil layer should not be wet; at this time, temperatures above 36 degrees may cause seedling death.

This is the hardest hurdle for Moon Orchids. If cooling conditions are not available, at least increase ventilation, and be especially careful not to move them around at will during this time. What the seedlings adapt to least at this stage is a constantly changing environment.

Take note: after planting Moon Orchids, do not fiddle with them just because you have nothing to do. What they need is quiet rest.

Pests and Diseases of Moon Orchids

Moon Orchids have relatively few pests, so there is usually no need to worry too much, but just in case, we should still do the following few things.

The fungicides we commonly use include carbendazim or more targeted disinfecting and sterilizing agents. Periodic prevention and treatment according to the instructions can effectively prevent and control diseases. If used after a disease outbreak, it can effectively treat it, but generally after a disease appears, follow-up observation is still needed.

In daily care, we should carry out routine periodic spraying for prevention and treatment. The dosage can be appropriately reduced; after all, every medicine has some toxicity, so use it sparingly, but do not fail to use it at all.

The parts of the plant tissue affected by disease must be thoroughly cut away, leaving no route for pathogens to spread. After cutting, the plant's wounds should be promptly disinfected with carbendazim and dried. The removed parts should be destroyed promptly and not thrown away carelessly, to avoid infecting other plants or causing others to become infected. The potting soil and flower pots used for diseased plants must also be thoroughly disinfected and sterilized.

Before we replant diseased plants, whether it is the growing medium, flower pots, or tools, all must be sterilized and disinfected. Keeping the plant's environment clean can also effectively prevent diseases from occurring.
