How to treat dry and withered leaves on a potted Peace Lily tree

The potted Peace Lily tree has very high practical value: it can be enjoyed, it can beautify the environment, and it can also eliminate harmful gases. But only with good care and management can it have these functions and show its application value. The Peace Lily tree is very suitable for foliage viewing. To fully bring out the application value of the potted plant, the leaves must maintain a good growth state. Once the leaves develop problems, all application value will disappear. Especially when the leaves of a potted Peace Lily tree become dry and withered, what then?

The Peace Lily tree likes a warm, humid growing environment and has the characteristics of being intolerant of drought, cold, and waterlogging, and its root system is mostly fibrous roots, so its absorption capacity is limited and it is also underdeveloped. Because its root system is relatively weak, it is often easily affected by water and fertilizer, especially excessive watering and overly high fertilizer concentration, which often easily damage the roots. When the Peace Lily tree shows dry and withered leaves, it is mainly caused by improper water and fertilizer management. Of course, it cannot be ruled out that it is caused by exposure to the scorching sun in summer.

1. Too strong light

The growing environment of the Peace Lily tree requires very sufficient light, but at the same time it also has a certain ability to tolerate shade. Even though it likes light, it is also afraid of scorching sun exposure, because under the scorching sun in summer, the leaves will accelerate transpiration of water, while its root system is mostly fibrous roots, and its absorption capacity is often limited. When the amount of evaporation is greater than the amount of water absorbed by the roots, it often breaks the balance of water supply and demand, resulting in dry and withered leaves. In fact, this is also a form of self-protection for the Peace Lily tree, mainly by sacrificing leaves in an effort to achieve a balance between water supply and demand. Therefore, in summer it is essential to avoid scorching sun exposure. It should be placed in a ventilated, sunny spot indoors, while increasing watering and spraying to preserve moisture and lower temperature.

2. Improper watering

Since the root system of the Peace Lily tree is mostly fibrous roots, its natural water absorption capacity is limited, so once too much water is given, the water will be difficult to consume in time, which easily causes water accumulation in the pot or makes the potting soil too wet. In a high-temperature, poorly ventilated environment, it is very easy to cause root suffocation and root rot, and if the situation is serious, it may directly cause root rot. Since the root system of the Peace Lily tree is damaged, it naturally cannot smoothly absorb and transport water, and the tree body cannot receive timely water replenishment, thus showing dry and withered branches and leaves. But if the pot remains in a water-deficient state for a long time, it will often also cause dehydration of the plant and lead to dry and withered branches and leaves. Therefore, watering must not only be timely, but also appropriate in amount. When water is lacking, water promptly; when there is too much water, promptly find a way to drain it away.

3. Excessive fertilizing

The Peace Lily tree relatively likes fertilizer, but it is also afraid of concentrated fertilizer and raw fertilizer. If the pot lacks nutrients, the plant sometimes shows yellowing and withered branches and leaves, but dry and withered leaves are mostly caused by excessive fertilizing. This is the same principle as excessive watering. Excessive watering or excessive fertilizing often causes root rot, which then leads to the result of leaves becoming dry and withered. Therefore, ordinary fertilizing must mainly be low-concentration and diluted, applying thin fertilizer frequently, especially during the growing season. If too much fertilizer is applied, promptly water heavily to dilute the fertilizer, and at the same time let the excess fertilizer drain out through the drainage hole at the bottom of the pot. But if the root system is severely damaged, promptly remove the Peace Lily tree from the pot, trim the roots, sterilize them, and then repot and plant it again.
