When do Luoyang peonies bloom

1. When they bloom

Luoyang peonies are famous far and wide. They generally bloom around April to May each year and are divided into three types: early, middle and late, with different varieties blooming earlier or later. The period from April 10 to April 20 is the full-bloom stage and also the best time for viewing, when the flowers are brightly colored and beautifully shaped, with very high ornamental value. The Luoyang Peony Festival also opens right at this time, so you can choose this period to go and admire them. The blooming time is not fixed; it varies according to the climate conditions of that year and the cultivation method. Sometimes, when spring temperatures that year are generally high, the blooming time comes earlier. The flowers do not last long, and after about 10 days or so they gradually fade.

2. Peony bloom-period management

1. Provide diffused light: During the blooming period, peonies must not be exposed to strong sun, nor kept in a shady spot without light; they need diffused light.

2. Thin flowers and buds: If the number of blooms that year is very large and the plants are growing well, be sure to do the work of thinning flowers and buds, removing the small buds, which also allows the remaining flowers to open better. After blooming ends, the spent flowers can be cut off in time, which reduces nutrient consumption and makes the remaining flowers stay in bloom longer.

3. Avoid water splashing: Before blooming, water thoroughly once to replenish moisture, and when the flowers are about to open, control watering. During the blooming period, water must not be sprayed on the leaves or flowers, otherwise the blooming period will be shortened and the flowers will fade easily.
