Reasons Why Orchid Leaves Turn Black and How to Fix It

What Causes Orchid Leaves to Turn Black

1. Caused by scorching sun exposure

Cause: While growing, orchids should not be exposed to strong direct sunlight. Especially in summer, if no shade is provided at midday, the leaves will turn black after being sunburned.

Solution: First cut off the blackened leaves, then move the plant to a spot with weaker sunlight. After the plant recovers gradually, it will return to normal.

2. Infection by pathogens

Cause: Once the leaves are infected by pathogens, if no treatment is given promptly, some black spots will appear on the leaves and gradually turn black.

Solution: After identifying which disease has caused the infection, spray the appropriate medication right away to address the root cause. During care, open the windows often and carry out simple disinfection.

3. Overwatering

Cause: If the plant is watered too much, the leaf tips will turn black and the blackening will spread inward, so it should be dealt with as soon as possible.

Solution: First cut off the black leaves, then water it less and provide as much ventilation as possible. Also use mancozeb to drench the roots, and spray the diseased leaves appropriately.
