How to grow snake plant so it becomes thick and sturdy

The snake plant (Sansevieria) is a typical indoor foliage plant. Not only are its leaves broad, thick and beautifully patterned, but its main roots are also very thick and sturdy, giving it extremely high ornamental value as a potted plant. But some growers find that the snake plant they keep at home grows relatively slender leaves, which makes it prone to toppling over.

To grow the snake plant well, get it into good condition and avoid toppling, we first need to make it sturdy so that its stems and leaves have strong supporting ability. As long as we normally spray a little of this leaf-strengthening water on it once every half month, the plant will grow plump and sturdy and will never topple over again.

This leaf-strengthening water is actually a foliar fertilizer we spray on it. Although the snake plant is fairly tolerant of poor soil, it also very much loves fertilizer. If you want its leaves to grow broad and thick, you must make sure it gets enough nutrients. But since it is grown mainly for its foliage and mainly for leaf growth, you should supplement it mainly with nitrogen fertilizer.

To apply nitrogen fertilizer to the snake plant, you can directly apply a quick-acting fertilizer with a high nitrogen content. But if you spray it as a foliar fertilizer, you must control the concentration well and make sure the fertilizer solution is sufficiently dilute, otherwise it can easily cause fertilizer burn. Usually, dilute a quick-acting nitrogen fertilizer with water at 800-1000 times, pour it into a spray bottle, shake it well, and then spray the leaves.

When spraying the leaves, be sure to spray every leaf thoroughly and evenly, but avoid forming large numbers of water droplets on the leaves, or even letting droplets keep dripping down, otherwise it can easily cause over-fertilization and fertilizer burn. When you spray the snake plant's leaves as a mist, the leaf pores open quickly and absorb the nitrogen, so the growth-promoting effect on the plant is also very obvious.

Of course, the frequency of spraying foliar fertilizer on the snake plant must also be controlled properly. Generally, spraying this high-nitrogen quick-acting fertilizer solution on it once a month is enough. Although foliar fertilizer is an effective supplement to root fertilizer, it has the characteristics of being well absorbed and fast-acting, so it easily makes the snake plant's leaves grow broad, thick, upright and strong, and a lush green.
