Orchid watering tips: what kind of water is best?

1. What kind of water to use

For watering orchids, the most recommended options are rainwater or purified water. Rainwater is natural and beneficial to their growth. Purified water contains no impurities, so it can prevent anything harmful in the water from affecting their growth. Besides that, if you want to supplement some nutrients while providing water, you can also give them some fermented rice-washing water.

2. When to water

Before watering, you should first observe the condition of the growing medium. If it has completely dried out, then watering is naturally fine. But if it has not dried out yet, insert a toothpick into the soil, wait a while, and then take it out; if you find that its bottom is still moist, then do not water for now. Otherwise, water may accumulate, which can then affect the orchid roots.

3. How to water

There are two recommended ways to water. One is to place the flower pot into a large basin filled with water, so that the growing medium absorbs some water from the large basin through the holes at the bottom of the pot. Once you see the surface of the growing medium darken in color, take the pot out and let it dry. The other is to water directly into the flower pot, but pour it along the edge of the pot. When you see water seeping out from the holes at the bottom of the pot, stop watering.
