How to save a peony with root rot? Practical treatment methods shared

If the roots of a peony have rotted, you need to cut off the rotten roots promptly, then disinfect them with a dedicated sterilization solution. Unsuitable soil can cause root rot, so you also need to replace it with loose, fertile, well-draining neutral or slightly alkaline soil. You also need to apply water and fertilizer reasonably, so as to prevent root rot.
How to save a peony with root rot
1. Prune and disinfect
If the roots of a peony have rotted, you need to prune it promptly: take the plant out of the soil, then cut off all the rotten roots, which can prevent the rotted parts from spreading. After that, soak and disinfect them with a sterilization solution such as carbendazim, and finally let the water on the surface of the roots dry.
2. Replace with new soil
The root rot of a peony is very likely caused by unsuitable soil. It likes to grow in loose, fertile, well-draining neutral or slightly alkaline soil. If the soil is compacted or slightly acidic, it is prone to root rot, so at this point you also need to replace it with new soil.
3. Reasonable water and fertilizer
When growing a peony, if you water it too much, or apply raw fertilizer or concentrated fertilizer, it may also develop root rot. So in later care, we need to master the watering principle of watering when dry and stopping when wet; when fertilizing, apply decomposed fertilizer, and it needs to be diluted before use.
