What should I do if the leaves of a money tree wilt after repotting?

Growing flowers and plants in pots usually cannot avoid the step of repotting, and it is often something that has to be done to give propagated seedlings a more suitable growing environment. Whether propagated by sowing or by cuttings, usually once the seedlings survive and grow to a certain extent, they must be timely divided or repotted and transplanted, each being grown separately in its own pot.

Money trees are mostly propagated into potted seedlings by cuttings, and they can be propagated both by stem cuttings and by leaf cuttings. However, by comparison, seedlings from stem cuttings sprout more easily, while seedlings from leaf cuttings have the advantage in number. But whether the seedlings come from stem cuttings or leaf cuttings, once they take root and sprout, they must be repotted in a timely manner. However, repotting requires mastering the correct method, otherwise it will affect the survival result.

Many novice growers find, not long after repotting money tree seedlings, that the plants show poor growth. Wilting leaves are especially likely to occur, and in severe cases withering can also appear.

If the leaves of a money tree wilt after repotting, it means the plant has not yet successfully completed the recovery period. There are many factors that can prevent it from smoothly adapting to the pot, whether it is an improperly chosen repotting time, severe damage to the plant's root system during transplanting, failure to provide a suitable recovery environment after transplanting, or improper care and management during the recovery period. In short, there are very many reasons.

But no matter which cause leads to the wilting of money tree leaves after repotting, in the final analysis it is because the plant's root system cannot absorb water normally, and over time the plant becomes dehydrated. Therefore, we mainly check one by one according to the reasons listed above, and then promptly take correct remedial measures.

If the money tree's leaves only wilt briefly and slightly, this is generally a normal sign during the recovery period. You can pay more attention and observe for a few days, and after it smoothly adapts to the pot, this phenomenon will gradually improve until it disappears. But if its leaves remain wilted for a long time, and even the branches become shriveled, then we must promptly find the cause.

First, check the care environment, and at the same time reflect on the management methods used during the recovery period. During the recovery period, the newly potted money tree must be placed in a cool, ventilated spot for care, avoiding direct sunlight, and at the same time check whether the temperature and humidity of the environment meet the standard. If any condition cannot be met, it must be improved in a timely manner. But if everything is cared for according to the correct methods, then the problem may not lie in this link, and further investigation is needed.

If the recovery environment for care is suitable and the care methods are appropriate, then the greatest possibility is that it was caused by improper operation during repotting, and the greatest possibility is that root damage occurred. Therefore, we need to carefully take the plant out of the pot and carefully check its root system. If If the roots are damaged and wound infection has already occurred leading to rot, then the roots must be trimmed and cleaned in a timely manner.

Then soak the plant's roots in a carbendazim or potassium permanganate solution for a period of time to disinfect and sterilize. After soaking the roots, place it in a cool, ventilated spot to dry the wounds, and at the same time cut off the withered branches and leaves to prevent them from continuing to consume water and nutrients from the tree body. If necessary, the top can also be sawed off, but the wounds must be disinfected and sealed to avoid infection and water loss.

Finally, we use fertile, loose, breathable and permeable sandy soil to pot the plant again, and place the pot in a cool, ventilated spot for recovery. During this period, pay attention to keeping it warm and moist. If necessary, it can also be covered with film or a bag to create a suitable temperature and humidity environment for it. Because the money tree has relatively strong vitality, generally after such treatment, it can quickly take root and survive smoothly, and after resuming normal growth, the wilting of the leaves will also gradually improve. Usually we only need to carry out scientific care and management according to the correct operating methods.
