What to Do When Spots Appear on Money Tree Leaves? Teach You the Correct Way to Handle It

The money tree (Pachira aquatica) is a green plant that many plant lovers enjoy growing. Many people also think this indoor foliage plant is very easy to care for. Indeed, the money tree is a fairly easy green plant to grow, and as long as you follow normal care methods, it generally won't have any problems. Moreover, even if problems arise during growth, we can treat them according to the symptoms on the surface.
The money tree is an elegant indoor foliage plant, and if its leaves don't grow well, it will naturally affect its appearance to a large extent. For example, what should you do when spots appear on the leaves of a potted money tree? In fact, when this problem occurs with the money tree, it is generally caused by improper care, mostly manifesting as fungal infections caused by overwatering, too much light, or too low temperatures.
Spots on money tree leaves are mostly caused by leaf spot disease or leaf blight. Below, the editor will explain the treatment methods for these two conditions separately.
I. Prevention and Treatment Methods for Leaf Spot Disease
Leaf spot disease is a common condition and is relatively easy to identify. At the beginning, some dark brown or brown leaf spots will appear on the leaves, and the leaf color will also darken. The interior of the leaves will gradually turn grayish-white, resembling sunburn from intense sunlight. If not treated in time, the diseased spots will gradually expand, then infect other healthy leaves, and black powdery substances will also accumulate on the spots.
In fact, the prevention method is not very complicated. Usually, you first need to use sterilized tools to cut off the infected branches and leaves to avoid expanding the infected area. Second, it is recommended to spray a diluted solution of carbendazim or thiophanate every 2 weeks during the humid rainy season. However, when spraying, try to avoid getting the diluted solution on the leaves, otherwise it will leave small white spots, which will further affect the foliage appearance.
Of course, if the disease is relatively severe, it is not recommended to use disinfectant solutions such as carbendazim, because even if used, the effect is not obvious. The recommended approach is to spray a diluted solution of chlorothalonil or tebuconazole after cutting off the infected leaves, and alternate it with methyl thiophanate, which will produce better results.
After completing the treatment, we also need to improve the ventilation of the environment, properly control watering, and avoid an overly enclosed humid environment that could trigger leaf spot disease again. It is also recommended to appropriately apply organic liquid fertilizer to promote plant growth and prevent the plant from being infected by pests and diseases due to lack of fertilizer.
II. Prevention and Treatment Methods for Leaf Blight
Leaf blight is quite different from leaf spot disease. The former infects and damages a larger area, generally causing an entire leaf to develop lesions and change color; the latter mainly appears as rings or patches that are black on the outside and white on the inside. Not only does leaf spot disease spread, but leaf blight also spreads, and a humid, enclosed environment will worsen both conditions. Therefore, timely treatment measures should be taken to avoid causing greater harm to the plant.
As for the treatment method for leaf blight, first, in the early stage of the disease, you likewise need to use sterilized tools to cut off the branches and leaves attacked by the disease. At the same time, improve ventilation conditions and increase air permeability to enhance light exposure.
At the same time, in the early stage of the disease, you can spray a diluted solution of azoxystrobin or thiophanate-methyl once a week, and continuous use 4 or 5 times will suffice. If alternated with basic copper sulfate suspension concentrate or a diluted ketoconazole solution, it can achieve a better therapeutic effect.
As for whether a potted money tree is infected with leaf spot disease or leaf blight, everyone must not blindly try random remedies. First, you need a clear understanding, and then promptly take the correct treatment measures to suit the symptoms. Only in this way can you achieve the goal of a cure.
