Rescuing a withered Guzmania

A withered Guzmania may be caused by unsuitable temperature. When the temperature is too high, move it to a shady place for care; when the temperature is too low, keep it indoors and make sure the room temperature stays above 10°C. Too much light can also cause Guzmania to wither. At that point, you need to provide shade promptly and let it grow in a semi-shaded environment.

How to rescue a withered Guzmania

1. Improve the temperature

Guzmania likes to grow in a warm environment; it is neither cold-tolerant nor heat-tolerant. If the withering is caused by unsuitable temperature, you can move the plant to a place with a suitable temperature for care. When the temperature is too high, move the plant to a shady place for care; when the temperature is too low, move it indoors and make sure the temperature stays above 10°C. This way the plant can recover to health.

2. Shading measures

Guzmania needs plenty of sunlight to grow, but it cannot be exposed to strong direct sunlight for long periods. In daily care, it should be placed in a spot with plenty of scattered light. If the Guzmania withers because of too much light, you can promptly provide shading and let it grow in a semi-shaded environment, so it can recover to health.

3. Reasonable watering

Overwatering or underwatering can also cause Guzmania to wither. If the withering is caused by too little watering, you need to water it immediately and sprinkle water around the leaves so the leaves can fully absorb moisture as well. If it is caused by too much watering, you need to promptly move the plant to a ventilated place to speed up water evaporation, and in severe cases, replace it with new soil.
