Pests and diseases of Anoectochilus roxburghii and their control

Anthracnose

This disease can occur at any time, but high temperatures and rainy weather in summer make it more likely. In the early stages, it spreads gradually from the very tip of the leaf to the rhizome. It starts out brown and later turns black. If not treated in time, the entire plant may die.

Control methods

Again, start by changing the growing environment; good air circulation and bright light will reduce the occurrence of the disease. When the disease appears, it can be sprayed with medication.

Southern blight

This disease occurs very easily during the plum rain season. In the early stages, the base of the leaf is covered by white mycelium, and the rhizome slowly rots away; in severe cases, it can also cause the entire plant to die.

Control methods

This disease occurs mainly because of poor air circulation, combined with the plum rain season, or soil that stays too wet for a long time. Therefore, during care there must be a well-ventilated and light-transmitting environment, and the soil must not stay wet for long periods or become waterlogged. If the disease is too severe, the only option is to destroy the entire plant. The soil can be used again only after disinfection.

Scale insects

This pest is also called orchid scale. It occurs easily in environments with poor air circulation, higher temperatures and higher humidity, and it reproduces very quickly.

Control methods

Change the growing environment, and when they are found, spray with medication; but if the pest numbers are small, they can be brushed off with a tool.
