Autumn is full of great materials for growing flowers; line the bottom of the pot with these and the roots will never rot again

There are so many good things in autumn that can be used for growing flowers. If we add a little of these to the pot when repotting, drainage, aeration and nutrients will all be abundant, and the flowers will grow even better.

1. Pine cones

Pine cones have excellent drainage and aeration, so flower roots will not rot from waterlogging or poor aeration. Soak pine cones picked up outside in hot water, then disinfect them with carbendazim, and let them dry. When potting, lay a layer of pine cones at the bottom of the pot and add potting soil on top.

2. Loofah sponge

Loofah sponge is soft and loose with good aeration, and using it in flower pots gives the potting soil especially good drainage and aeration. There are some loofah seeds inside the sponge; we can crack them with a hammer, then cut the sponge into sections and line the bottom of the pot with them. The process is very simple.

3. Pine needles

Pine needles can be said to be a material with very good drainage and aeration. In autumn, the pine needles under pine trees that look slightly black or gray can be taken home and used directly. Spread them in the sun for two or three days, then disinfect them with carbendazim, and they can be used directly to line the pot, or mixed with the potting soil, which also works very well and can provide nutrients to the flowers.

4. Pine bark

Old pine bark is very brittle and can be knocked off and broken up with a light tap. It still needs to be soaked in carbendazim to disinfect it; after drying, it can be placed at the bottom of the pot. Using it for potted plants such as orchids and clivia is very suitable and can effectively prevent root rot in potted plants.
