Technical Management Measures and Precautions for Sows at Farrowing on Farms
Many breeders believe that in the process of sow breeding, as long as good breeding management is done during farrowing, good results can be achieved. In fact, this is a mistaken idea. Compared with breeding management during farrowing, management at the time of farrowing is also crucial. The following is an introduction to management measures for sows at farrowing.
The following points should be noted when sows are about to farrow:

1. Pay attention to observation:
One week before farrowing, the sow's condition should be observed at all times, and care should be strengthened to prevent accidents such as premature farrowing or no one being present to assist with the birth.

2. Change the feed:
From 10 to 15 days before farrowing, gradually switch to lactation-period feed to prevent indigestion and piglet diarrhea caused by a sudden feed change after farrowing.

3. Increase or decrease feed:
If the sow is in good body condition and the udder is obviously enlarged, the feeding amount should be gradually reduced 1 week before farrowing, and reduced by half of the daily ration 1 to 2 days before farrowing; coarse feed, trough residue and other bulky feed should also be reduced to avoid pressing the fetuses or causing pre-farrowingsow constipationand affecting farrowing.
When signs of impending farrowing are found, stop feeding and give only soybean cake and bran soup. If the sow is in poor body condition and the udder is shrunken, then not only should feed not be reduced, but protein-rich milk-promoting feed such as soybean cake should also be added to prevent the sow from having no milk after farrowing.

4. Moderate exercise:
One week before farrowing, long-distance movement should be stopped and replaced with free activity near the pig house or in the exercise yard, to avoid miscarriage or stillbirth caused by intense chasing, squeezing or collision.

5. Move into the farrowing house:
Move the sow into the farrowing house 3 to 5 days before farrowing, so that it becomes familiar with and accustomed to the new environment, and to avoid suffocation and death of the fetuses at farrowing caused by intense disturbance just before farrowing. However, the sow should not be moved into the farrowing house too early, so as to avoid contaminating the farrowing pen and reducing the sow's physical strength.

6. Remove external parasites:
If lice or mange are found on the sow, spray with a 2% trichlorfon solution to eliminate them, so as to avoid passing them on to the piglets after farrowing.
Summary: The above is an introduction to the management of sows at farrowing in sow breeding managementtechnology, the management of sows at farrowingtechnology. It is hoped that the above introduction can be helpful to the vast number of breeders.
