In hot seasons, different feeding and management should be adopted according to the category of pigs.
In hot seasons, different feeding and management should be given according to the different categories of pigs.
1. Boars
Feed twice a day, and add green feed or thin feed at noon. Mating and exercise are both carried out in the morning and evening. After mating, do not immediately go into water or spray cool water. Every day from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., spray water once on the pig's body and the ground, and reduce lighting to 8-10 hours. If the number of matings is low, the amount of concentrate feed should be reduced to prevent overfattening and poor libido.
2. Pregnant sows
Avoid mating and breeding in hot seasons. In the early stage of pregnancy (0-84 days), sows should mainly be given green and roughage, with an appropriate amount of concentrate, and the stocking density should be reduced, with 2-3 pigs per pen. In the late stage of pregnancy and the lactation period, one pig per pen, concentrate should be the main feed with an appropriate amount of green feed, roughage can be omitted, feed 3 times a day, with thin feed added in between, and spray water once. Add 1%-1.5% baking soda and 0.3% salt to the feed.
3. Sows about to give birth
In summer, the farrowing room should be chosen with good ventilation and shade facilities. For sows about to give birth, reduce concentrate feed 2-3 days before farrowing, feed more green feed, and increase the proportion of bran in the concentrate feed, for the purpose of cleansing the intestines and preventing constipation. After finishing farrowing, feed warm salt water with bran once.
4. Commercial large pigs
They are difficult to raise in hot seasons, and often refuse to eat from the trough, affecting growth. Generally, before the hot season arrives, sell the fattening pigs. If they are not sold, reduce the stocking density, keep fewer pigs per pen, and allow 1-1.2 sq m of pen area per pig. Spray water to cool them, feed in the morning and evening, add green feed or thin feed at noon, and add 1.5% baking soda and 0.3% salt to the feed.
5. Suckling piglets and small pigs
They like to lie on damp and shady ground. Pay attention to weather changes to prevent them from catching cold and developing white scour or diarrhea. Keep the ground dry, provide clean drinking water, and disinfect regularly. For prevention, add 120 mg oxytetracycline per kg of feed, feed for a few days and then stop for a few days. For treatment, add 200 mg oxytetracycline per kg of feed.
